As we celebrate our diversity, we must be vigilant in fighting for equality for people of every race, ethnicity, physical ability, gender and orientation. Today, market forces pose the most significant threat to our diversity, through the loss of affordable housing. Access to safe, secure housing stabilizes families and gives children a better environment in which to learn and to grow. Affordable, accessible housing attracts our local work force, frees up personal income to meet other needs and pursue goals, increases the efficiency of our transportation networks, and even enhances our county’s emergency preparedness.
